Who are Dunmail Systems Engineering?

Dunmail Systems Engineering V Logo

Dunmail Systems Engineering was formed after both founding partners, Max and Dan, independently found similar skills and knowledge deficits within several high-profile engineering firms and realised there were systematic gaps in the industry.

Systems Engineering is a vital, cross-discipline approach. The main aim is to form a coherent pipeline for a project to follow that ensures good requirements are formed at the beginning, and fully achieved by the end. This means products are solidly conceived, well designed, thoroughly validated, and only then released to market with the correct regulatory approval. All of this while remaining fit for purpose by actually meeting the needs of the end customer.

Engineering firms which lack these skills are slow to innovate. Most engineering firms hire great engineers and know exactly how to develop the products they want but don't always necessarily actually end up with what their market or clients want; or fail to get their products to market on time after falling foul of red tape they hadn't anticipated.

That's where we come in. We focus on the process, asking the right questions, and guiding your project teams towards delivering what your customers want, not necessarily what you think they want.

Max Carruthers MEng

Max graduated from Loughborough University with an Master's degree in Automotive Engineering, including a Diploma of Industrial Studies obtained through a placement year at Cummins Emissions Solutions.

Returning to Cummins as a graduate, he pushed the performance and efficiency of engines towards Euro VI and VII standards, and ultimately moved onto the UK FCEV team as hydrogen system integration lead where he led the system engineering process for the vehicle's fuel cell, hydrogen storage system and digital twin.

Max continued FCEV systems engineering work at HVS, and is now a senior product applications engineer with Turntide Technologies, furthering electrification of mobility solutions.

Dan Lenartowicz MEng MIET MIFSE

Dan graduated from the University of Leeds with a Master's degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, having specialised in material physics for optoelectronics and microfluidics.

He started his career as an integration engineer at Labman Automation developing in-vitro diagnostic systems through Horizon Europe projects. He has since taken on the role of technical authority and compliance lead on instrumentation projects across a variety of sectors including potable water, battery energy storage, gas utility, medical, and consumer products.

He continues to work with multiple firms across a range of sectors where one common goal recurs - where users must be kept safe from risks fundamental to the function of a system.

Outside of Dunmail Systems

Max and Dan both hail from the fringes of the UK's Lake District and have a shared passion for the outdoors. This usually manifests as some sort of activity involving hills and speed, be it either through mud on wheels, on snow wearing skis, or by foot over trails.

They're both fond of an active 'business meeting' and regularly conduct them in the fells or over lunch at one of the many great pubs in their vicinity.

The History of Dunmail Systems

Why choose dunmail systems engineering?

Our clients love how we don't just consult, we actually get hands-on and help. We regularly get stuck in on the ground by writing SOPs, performing risk analysis, developing FMEAs, and helping to resolve design challenges.

We don't simply provide a template and point to a regulation, we sit down with them to help them understand requirements on a practical level, provide training, and sit with their design teams to make sure that what they're producing matches their goals.

We hope the testimonials our past and present clients have provided back this up!
